This feature permits to make an image file from existing optical disc. To complete this operation, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Go to FileGrab a Disc.

  2. The following window opens. Insert the optical disc you want to save as an Image file and choose the appropriate physical drive. Press Refresh if the needed disc is not on the list. Choose the reading speed.

  3. Manage the path where you want to save your Image file and set the name to one. Choose one of proposed Image formats (*.mdx, *.mds, *.iso or *.ape).

  4. Choose Compress if you want to reduce Image file size. Note that this option works only for .mdx and .mds images.

  5. Choose Password if you want to protect the Image file; type the code twice in the corresponding fields. Note that this option works only for .mdx and .mds images.

  6. Choose Split if you want to get several images from one disc as a result. Note that this option works only for *.mds images.

  7. Once you’ve customized all the basic settings mentioned above (ones in the Image tab), you can whether Grab a Disc or customize extended properties from Device tab. Note that these options work only for *.mdx, *.mds and *.ape images.

    • Lock device option serves for blocking the drive during the grabbing to avoid accidental drive's opening.

    • Open exclusively option serves for blocking access to the source disc for any program except Astroburn Pro.

    • Disc Profile option permits to choose the type of a disc. Some additional options may appear with certain disc profiles. Here is the full list of supported profiles:

      • Data Disc: a regular storage for all types of files.

      • Audio Disc: a storage for sound information.

      • Karaoke CD: a storage that consists of songs with build-in lyrics.

      • Mixed Mode CD: a disc that includes both audio files and data.

      • CD-Extra: a parent profile for Mixed Mode CD.

      • Video CD: the old format for storing video files.

      • DVD-Video: the most well-known format for video items on DVD; it includes MPEG-2 compressed video and multiple audio formats.

      • DVD-Audio: the best format for high-quality audio files on DVD.

      • SafeDisc: the format with copy protection system, usually used for game and movie distribution.

      • CD/DVD-Cops: the format with copy protection system, contains a special code in the main executable file on the disc.

      • StarForce: disc formats that prevent unallowed copying of different types of CDs.

      • ProtectCD/ProtectDISC: a copy prevention format used for video files and software.

      • Old SecuROM: an old standard for copy prevention and digital rights management used for games distribution.

      • New SecuROM: a fresh standard for copy prevention and digital rights management used for games distribution.

      • TAGES: a copy prevention system that uses twin sectors of the compact disc.

    • Number of retries on bad block hit option sets how many times Astroburn Pro will try to read a bad block if it is found on the disc.

    • Ignore bad blocks option permits you create an image even from the damaged source disc. Once you’ve checked this option, you choose to Skip bad blocks or Add bad blocks. The first one will skip the errors while burning an image and the second one will mark all bad blocks on the source disc. In both cases, an image will be created.

    • Sub-channels are parts of data which control the playback of the CD.

  8. Once you’ve finished customizing additional options — press Start to burn the Image file.

  9. The following window opens. All the properties set to the output image are indicated there. Check Close window on successful finish if you want to shut the dialog window once the grabbing is done. Wait until this process is finished.
